During Ramadan fast, approximately one billion Muslims abstain from food and fluid between the hours of sunrise to sunset, and usually eat a large meal after sunset and another meal before sunrise. Many studies reported good health-related outcomes of fasting including weight loss. The objective of this study is to identify the local pattern of expenditure on food consumption, dietary habits during Ramadan and correlate that to self-reported weight gain after Ramadan in a group of families in Jeddah, Western Saudi Arabia.
Conclusion: Surprisingly weight gain and not weight loss was reported after Ramadan by Saudis which indicates timely needed life-style and dietary modification programs for a population which reports one of the highest prevalence rates of diabetes.

my comment is Re: Fasting . Actual Ramadan, and / or actual fasting {for those whom are not particularly Muslim} is not really a decision nor a choice per se, to not eat . It is simply that at certain times of life, one’s or many’s Food is not available presently . It may seem confusing , as those undergoing the fast / fasting can of course see groceries / restaurants / kitchens / possibly other people eating and such . The food that grows on the farms, the Game and other harvested foods and other meats really cannot be expected to exist exhaustively . Further, any and all food cannot be consumed by Anyone , so that one’s Ramadan or Fast may not coincide with Another person’s . One really would know of oneself’s own life, what is one’s food, actually. One may be reasonable . and do try to not be led astray by a Man teasing you with a Candy Bar , during this time .
Fasting, is of course, as described above. A fast is not ever a “diet” nor a way to “lose weight” . Living a great life is really the only way to be happy with one’s Body, including body size and Dress size , and Hair and Skin and Teeth . Starving yourself is not something that does exist .
